Bev Lutz ICF membership provides incredible professional networking opportunities, professional and personal growth, and opportunities to explore my strengths as I volunteer in service of my profession.  My chapter really helps me stay current with coaching, thought leadership, and learn-n-earn (CEU’s) from professional development events.  But it’s the supportive coach-friends and collaborators who have made membership for me priceless. //s3.amazonaws.com/ClubExpressClubFiles/907122/graphics/BevLutz1_669008720.jpg

President's Letter - February 2017

Sara Krisher, ACC
ICF Minnesota President

As a coach, you play an important role in the lives of your clients. You aim to listen without judgement, bravely ask powerful questions, and witness life changing transformations. Being a coach is an amazing opportunity to be continually reminded that change is possible. Transformation is within reach for those who want it. As a coach we bring so much to the world and don’t require much in return. But, just like our client’s, we need an understanding soul to listen to us, without judgement. Just like our client’s, we need someone to bravely ask us powerful questions. Just like our client’s we need growth and transformation in our own lives. Cognitively it makes sense. Coaches need coaches. But knowing is not the same as doing.

If you’re struggling to make this coaching business a legitimate way to earn an income, you’ll benefit from a coach. If you’re coaching business is bringing you the income you want, but you’re burnt out or struggling to make time for life you’ll benefit from a coach. If you’re an experienced coach earning a great income and finding time to live life, but you’re wondering what’s next, you’ll benefit from working with a coach. I’ll say it again – Coaches need coaches. It’s a wonderful thing to be acknowledged and supported in business and life. I invite you to reach out to a coach and explore the possibilities awaiting you.

With Confidence,

Sara Krisher, ACC
ICF Minnesota President

February 28, 2017 In-Person Meeting - Courageous Conversations: Staying Connected When We’d Rather Disengage

There comes a time in every relationship when things don’t go smoothly; when the going gets tough and what used to work, no longer does.

Challenging situations happen at work with the boss and with our co-workers. Difficulties rise up at home with our children, spouse and with our aging parents.

It’s in those tough moments, when we don’t see eye to eye, that we are called to courageously speak what’s on our mind and share what’s in our heart.

But so often, we don’t.

In this presentation Lisa will share The 3 Steps to Prepare for a Courageous Conversation. And she will walk us through The 5 Steps to take in Your Courageous Conversation.

Participants will leave this workshop inspired and prepared to have conversations that will move their relationships forward, even when things feel stuck.

Booming Business Blueprint: Roadmap for your Business and Life Journey

by Lynn Nodland, Ph.D., MCC and Robin Nordmeyer, CLC

Greetings,

Lynn and Robin here with www.BoomingBusinessBlueprint.com and the Masterful Coaches Community. We help you to reach your goals for a booming business, balanced life, and a masterful coaching practice. Our last article was on the concept of time as a gift and you can either use it or lose it for developing your ideal business and life. We looked at reflection on the past and actions for the future. This article will help you to create a roadmap to leverage your time to reach your goals.

ROADMAP FOR YOUR BUSINESS AND LIFE JOURNEY

Mapping Out A Plan

In the previous article we talked about using time, now we will look at clarifying where you want to go. If you know where you are going, you can save a lot of time by taking the most direct routine. What do you really want in your business and life? If you need more clarity, you might want to set aside some specific time to do some visioning. Do you have ideas in mind that you are just going for or are you thinking big on what you really want? Before you start on this business building and life-enhancing journey, you will want to know your desired destination. From there you can create your roadmap on how to get there. How do you like to create your roadmap? Here are some ideas you might want to try. Some individuals like to brainstorm and mind-map on a large sheet of paper, breaking out their steps in their journey. Others like to create checklists and follow them in a given order, feeling the satisfaction of checking things off. Some people have a whiteboard where they write the steps and actually make it look like a journey. Some use sticky notes on the wall, arranging them into a logical sequence of steps. Then they can add, remove and arrange the sticky notes as needed. Write down how you want to map out your plan for the journey ahead.

Prioritizing Your Plan

Whatever method you use to plan and keep track of your steps, it is helpful to prioritize actions. You can assign dates or numbers to reflect the timing and order in which the steps are to be taken. Here are some ideas for prioritizing that you might want to try. Some individuals like to use color. For example, red is a color that may indicate “do it now”. While green may indicate “it’s easy to do”. While yellow may indicate “it’s fun to do”. While grey might be for “it can wait” and be put in the parking lot to attend to later. Using color to differentiate your plan makes it visually easy to see and track what needs to be done.
Are lists helpful to you? Some people like to prioritize lists on their devices (cell phone, tablet, computer, etc.) and maybe even code their lists beginning with different symbols. For example, using an * sign might mean “urgent” or “to do first”. Whereas using a # sign might indicate something else. You can choose whatever symbols you want, or even just number them, depending on what makes sense to you. Also, sometimes the tried and true paper list pinned up, where you can’t miss it, is a good visual reminder. Another way to prioritize is to categorize tasks into similar groups or activities. Sometimes when tasks are grouped together it can save time and effort to complete by not having to switch mental gears. Here are some examples of how to group things together: phone calls, content creation, billing, client care, etc. Another way to group tasks is to use the Covey grid as a way of rating importance and urgency. In his book, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Stephen Covey provides a time management matrix which assigns tasks into four categories: “Urgent and Important, Not Urgent and Important, Urgent and Not Important, Not Urgent and Not Important”. This is another effective way to plan and prioritize tasks and steps into groups that help you manage your plan effectively and easily recognize what needs to be done first. Write down the method(s) you want to use to help prioritize the steps in your plan.

Staying on Track with Your Plan

One thing that helps people stay on track is scheduling and time management. There is a saying that a task expands to the time allotted for it. It may be tempting to not have a specific time assigned to complete a task. Establishing a set time and date is helpful for getting tasks completed. Setting up short term deadlines to reach a bigger deadline is one way that helps with staying on track. When people know there is a certain amount of time to focus on something, it is more likely to get done. Some things to watch out for when working your plan might be getting caught up in perfectionism, losing track of where you are with your plan, or following distractions and shiny objects. Some ways to avoid these traps might be to set timers to manage your work, be clear about the desired result, and know when good is good enough. It is always helpful to create an environment that supports your productivity and allows you to focus on the task at hand. Another important approach is setting a deadline date to have the project completed. You can also assign specific tasks to open blocks of time in your schedule. Write down approaches you want to use to help you stay on track.

In summary, in this article we have talked about mapping out a plan to use your time effectively by prioritizing and staying on track. These steps can help you on your journey to reach your ideal business and life. We encourage you to set aside time to vision what you really want, create your plan, prioritize your time, and follow through. You and your vision for business and life is important. We wish you an enjoyable journey. Remember, you can’t do it all at once and you don’t need to do it all alone. Consider your own use of time. What is working well and what opportunities exist to create changes? Now is the time to make changes to achieve a more productive, prosperous business and a happier, more balanced life. Always know that we would be honored to be of service to you in your journey. If you have questions or would like more information, please contact us at Support@BoomingBusinessBlueprint.com. We look forward to getting to know you.

Please share this article in its entirety to those who might find it helpful.

Here’s to your success!
